02/04/2008 - Vox Yamaha wins Overall - Phakisa

Hi All

Well the VOX Yamaha Team was off to Phakisa on Friday for practice for the next round in the regional calendar. The weather was good and track conditions not bad.

The times we were posting on Friday were respectable and close to the front pace. The other front runners were having some setup issues and worked tireously on Friday to cure their problems.

Friday evening spent prepping and checking the bike for the Saturday races.

Saturday morning dawned and first on the agenda was qualifying. All the team was looking for was a front row start for each heat. We did achieve it by qualifying third.

RACE 1
The start for race 1 and on I was on new tyres for the race. I fluffed the start up but recovered to be second into turn 1. The positions changing back and forth between six riders in the lead pack. On lap 6 went into the lead and did not look back. I was passed by the national rider Trevor Crookes who won the heat with me finishing second ahead of the in suing pack.

RACE 2

and a demon start saw me straight into lead for 2 laps. I was passed for the lead on lap 3 and the lead group of five riders again at battle. As I was gaining on the leader and a gap of 0.7 seconds and closing a fellow rider had a big crash and the race was red flagged. This securing second place and very valuable points in heat 2.

A big thank-you must go to the sponsorship of VOX Telecom and a very well prepared bike from T&A Motorsport.

This gave the VOX Yamaha Team and me, First Overall for the day in the Superbike class. A special thanks to all the help and support of the team and people involved in making this win possible.

After second place overall at Round 1 and first overall at round 2 I am still currently second overall in the championship just a mere 6 points behind the leader

2.       Gary v/d Berg    VOX Yamaha                       66 points
