NEWS FLASH It is with great sadness that we have to announce that this weekend saw two of our well liked and respected Regional riders killed in two separate incidents. Both accidents took place within two hours of each other on Sunday 17th July 2005.
ANTONIO PERIERA Firstly Antonio Pereira was tragically killed whilst testing at Wesbank Raceway. It appears as if his brake calipers worked themselves loose at the end of the long straight and he hit the tyre wall and armco barrier. Antonio was a promising rider and both Andy and myself had the privilege of riding with him in the Battle of the Twins Regional Championship. He scored his maiden win (in fact double win) at Zwartkops on the 9th July 2005. In fact Antonio was the rider that passed me for the lead in the first heat and I can honestly say he was the most cleanest and courteous rider in the paddock. He never had anything unkind to say about any rider. He will be sorely missed in the paddocks. Beloved boyfriend and father to Maryke Hough, Megan (6) and Michelle (4). Funeral Arrangements
- Friday 22nd July @13h30 at the Fourways Memorial Park.
RIAAN KOTZE Also killed was Riaan Kotze who was new to racing (only started racing this year). Riaan rode his heart out on a Suzuki GSXR750. Unfortunately Riaan also had a passion for riding on the treacherous roads of our country and hit a cretan/idiot/retard/alien doing an illegal u-turn on a highway. He was killed on impact. Again I had the fortune of assisting Riaan with some lines and braking markers at the Regional race at Zwartkops and the partners of EmTek can honestly say that Riaan was a gentleman of note. Always trying with his heart and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. Beloved husband and father to Charmaine and Ruan. Funeral Arrangements - All meeting at Zee's on Saturday 23rd July 2005 from 09h00 to leave promptly. Mass Rider at 10h00 to church in Alberton, thereafter to Kromvlei Cemetary and back to Zee's for Refreshments.
To both our riders we hope that you will continue riding on the great highway in the sky and our wishes and condolences are extended to both the Kotze and Pereira families & Friends. Please mail your messages of condolence to info@emtekracing.co.za for publication. Gilbert (#41) and Andrew Parsons (#46); Ricky Morais; Andrew Parsons (Snr); Partners EmTek Racing
