Thys jnr. from a very early age took a keen interest in motorcycles and cars.

Later on this developed into a passion for racing.  He had a natural talent to quickly learn tracks and bikes. He was also very mechanically inclined and he did a lot of the work on his racing bikes himself as well as fixing road bikes for his friends.

Thys got his first 50cc road bike a Yamaha TZR in 2002.  Towards the end of 2002 we managed to buy a 50cc Yamaha TZR that had already been raced the previous season.

On the 8^th of February 2003 Thys took part in his very first race at Midvaal.  From then on he was hooked on racing bikes.  During the 2003 Regional series he had achieved some very good results against more experienced riders on more powerful bikes.

Finishing the year without a single fall on the Yamaha he just had to move up to the next level.

Nearing the end of 2003 we had managed to acquire a 250cc Honda NSR to race in the Powersport class.  Towards the end of the 2004 Regional season he had picked up some exceptionally impressive results and was posting some very fast lap times on most of the circuits.

On Saturday the 29^th of January 2005 whilst riding his road bike on the way to visit a friend Thys Jnr was tragically killed after being hit by a motorist who failed to stop at a intersection.

At the time of his death he was 17 years old and a grade 11 pupil at the Marais Viljoen High School in Alberton. Thys Jnr  will be tremendously missed by all his friends, his father Thys, his mother Tilla as well as his sister Bonita.
