EmTek Racing News - 2004

18/09/2004 - Phakisa National Race News

This was a most interesting and fierce battle fought in uncompromising conditions. From Thursday to Friday afternoon the wind howled and was gusting at about 30km/h. Unfortunately by the time qualifying came around on Saturday 10:00am the wind had picked up to around 60 km/h and a dust storm ensued. Eventually qualifying was abandoned in favour of a tyre scrubbing session and the grid was set as per champioship points - or 'al a' Regional format (at least they had to copy us at some point in time).

As is usual the racing was intense and from the top drawer and despite the adverse conditions lap times again tumbled. This seems to be a regular theme for 2004 with the young guns simply blowing the old guard away on the new 1000cc format. Hudson showed the rest of the pack exactly what a Suzuki can do in stock trim and managed a mind blowing 1.38.9 in the race - this was quicker than Frankie Chili's time in testing on a full works factory Coroner Suzuki here at Phakisa. Young Sheridan had a fairly good start for heat 1 but was punted when Trevor made a mistake - this allowed a gaggle of riders to pass him and he was 8th at the end of lap 3. As is usual Sheridan picked his was back to a tremendous 4th place and a good second place went to Noel Haarhof on his privateer Suzuki.

Heat 2 normal racing was resumed when Hudson cleared off into the sunset with Sheridan chasing him down hard but accepting second as the best option. This placed Sheridan second overall for the day for the 4th race in a row. And this is just his first official year in Nationals as a factory rider and second year as a rider.
