Kyalami hosted the final race of the 2003 Vodacom Power Tour.
The day started with Sheridan leading the Privateer championship by a few points from ex-SA champion Gavin Ramsay. We expected, as part sponsors, that he would have a good race and finish within a few points of Gavin (which is all he needed to do). Boy were we surprised.
The first race was cancelled due to oil in some corners and then also a highveld storm which came up very quickly. It was decided that, in the twilight, they would only have one race.
Sheridan had had a good qaulifying, and therefor started on the front row from 4th position.
The race started with most having a bad start, even with his bad start, Sheridan was into the 1st corner in 3rd place. He soon lost 2 more places and was 5th at the start of lap 4. Unfortunately Garth Norris and his Inala Kawasaki parted ways on the 4th lap. Once it was established that he was OK, the race was restarted with Sheridan starting from 3rd.
He got the hole-shot from the start, with Russel Wood and Shaun Whyte. Russel attempted to pass him several times, each time Sheridan would pass him back immediately. Either on the inside or the outside.
After some spectacular racing from the front 2, Sheridan finally crossed the line 1st. Although on aggregate, Russel finished ahead of him in the overall race results.
After the race, Russel said that it appeared as if Sheridan was willing to take any risk to win, whereas Russel had already clinched the National Title.
Well done Sheridan, beating all those very experienced factory riders.
Well done Russel on your 14th Championship.
With this taste of winning in his mouth, we wish him all success for next year when he will also be a factory rider.
It has been our pleasure and honour to sponsor him throughout his regional racing carreer.
